Periodontics, like all scientific and technological knowledge, is going through a period of change and is increasingly playing an important role in the dental scene, whether through medical periodontics, aesthetic periodontics, the treatment of periodontal diseases or participation in the context of dental implants.
It can even be said that you can't do dentistry with competence and quality without periodontics.
It is in this context that the Brazilian Society of Periodontology (SOBRAPE) has stood out as one of the most important scientific organizations throughout its almost 51 years - it was founded on October 6, 1970.

Headquartered in the city of Belo Horizonte, we have State Representatives in all states and the Federal District. Our membership ranges from undergraduate students to professors and doctors of high scientific knowledge and international renown.
Since 1992, we have materialized our scientific participation with the creation of the journal Periodontia, which has been published almost uninterruptedly for 27 years. Since 2015, it has been published electronically. The journal is being completely restructured and is already accepting new articles, with new publication criteria. In a completely updated guise, Revista Period ontia gives way to the Brazilian Journal of Periodontology .
One of SOBRAPE's most important presences in the scientific world is the biannual Brazilian Periodontology Congress. The XXVIII edition was held in 20129, in Rio de Janeiro, with the presence of national and international lecturers and an audience of almost 1000 participants. The next Congress, scheduled for early 2021 in Salvador - BA, had to be postponed to 2022 due to the health crisis.
SOBRAPE is an international member of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and affiliated to the Ibero-Pan American Federation of Periodontology (FIPP). It has an agreement with the Spanish Society of Periodontics and Osseointegration (SEPA) and maintains contact with various other organizations in order to expand national and international partners.
As an aggregating scientific society, we are constantly extending the benefits to our members. A number of previously scheduled face-to-face events have had to be replaced by virtual activities.
Thus, in 2020 we held numerous Lives, with leading names in Periodontics. Also in 2020, we held the Perioline Congress. The PerioPrev Congress recently went live. The Perio-Raiz Course is underway and is scheduled to end in December/21. (RE)
A large number of webinars have been and are being held, including the presence of foreign professors. World Gum Health Day, promoted by the European Federation on May 12, stimulated a large number of activities throughout Brazil.
The aim has always been to give our members the chance to add technical and scientific knowledge.

desde 2020 já foram lançados diversos livros: “Periodontia e Implantodontia Contemporânea” e “Best of Perioline Cirúrgico Year book – 1ª edição”, “Periodontia Estética – uma abordagem Multidisciplinar”, “Perio por Elas” publicados pela Santos Pub, e outros estão sendo elaborado.
Em 2023, visando ampliar seu campo de atuação a SOBRAPE transformou-se em SOCIEDADE BRASILEIRA DE PERIODONTIA E IMPLANTODONTIA – SOBRAPI
Por isso, e muito mais, que o convidamos a juntar-se a nós colaborando e participando do desenvolvimento e qualificação da Periodontia e Implantodontia brasileiras!
Uma das presenças mais importantes da SOBRAPI no meio científico, é a realização bianual do Congresso Brasileiro de Periodontologia. A XXIX edição foi realizada em 2022, em Salvador-BA, com a presença de ministrandos nacionais e internacionais e um público de praticamente 1000 participantes. O próximo Congresso, previsto para abril de 2024, será em Gramado, no RS.
